Welcome to the Latest Edition!

January 25th, 2022

Good morning!

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break (though it seems so long ago!) and that 2022 is off to a great start. The Rotman Digital team is here to continue to provide guidance and support as the winter semester kicks into gear.

In this edition of the newsletter we highlight the new analytics tool in Quercus which is now available by default on all course pages. "New Analytics" allows you to dig deeper into the ways students are engaging with your material. We've included information on various other Quercus updates released this month as well as a reminder not to use letter grades in assignments. More information below.

If you missed the announcement earlier this month, Rotman Digital is hosting a Poll Everywhere training session tomorrow at 12pm. See below for the registration link.

When designing your course page it is important to ensure your content in accessible. As we start this new semester it's worth taking a look at the accessibility checklist we've provided below.

New Analytics in Quercus

The "New Analytics" tool is now enabled by default in all courses. New Analytics has many features the original analytics tool did not, including the ability to export reports as a CSV file. Click here to learn more about New Analytics.

Warning Against the Use of Letter Grades in Quercus

The use of letter grades in Quercus can cause a slew of complicated issues. We recommend returning grades to students as points instead. For more information about why letter grades are discouraged, please consult this page. If you feel strongly about the use of letter grades, please contact us at rotmandigital@rotman.utoronto.ca and we will discuss options.

Reminder: Poll Everywhere Event

Tomorrow (Wednesday, January 26th) from 12-1pm Rotman Digital will be hosting a Poll Everywhere training session for faculty and staff. Poll Everywhere is a live-polling tool that helps to increase engagement in online and dual delivery classes. For more information click here. To register for tomorrow's session, click here.

Accessibility Checklist

As the new semester begins, it is important to ensure that your course material is accessible to all students. You may find this Accessibility Checklist useful for assessing the accessibility of your course page.
